Since it can be easy to be distracted by the activity taking place at any given time in a community, we act as an extra set of eyes and ears to ensure your specific questions and concerns are thoroughly addressed. And, if you think of more questions later, we'll follow up with the communities for you.

• Managing all correspondence with the communities until you are ready to communicate with them directly. This effectively eliminates the immediate and steady stream of phone calls and emails people receive after contacting communities directly, or when they are referred by agencies that communities pay for referrals. Since Fortina does not receive payment from communities, we are not influenced or affected by which community you ultimately choose, the cost of the apartment you select, or when you move in.

• Guaranteeing objectivity. Since we do not receive referral fees from senior living communities, our recommendations are not limited by referral agreements or other external influences such as who is in our paid referral network. This means we can recommend any community based on its appropriateness for your specific interests and needs, ensuring you won’t miss out on a gem even if it doesn’t pay for referrals.

If you would like to include options that you've heard about or that were recommended to you by friends, friends of friends, family members and anyone in your extended circle of influence, we will include them in our recommendations if they are appropriate; and explain the reasons they are not when applicable. We don't want you to be surprised by monthly fees that exceed your budget, or service limitations that may affect your eligibility to live there or your long-term wellbeing. Remember that well-meaning people might not know your financial situation, personal care needs or health conditions that may require support others don't require. If you would still like to explore options that are intentionally not included in our recommendations, additional hourly fees apply.

• Conducting long-distance searches.  Our prior experience includes supporting the development and operations of senior living communities throughout the country. As a result, we are familiar with several markets and the senior living providers that serve them. Our initial search will be conducted remotely and upon your review of Fortina's recommendations, we will travel to the location(s) you are considering to tour the selected communities on your behalf and others that are recommended as local connections are made. Additional fees apply for travel expenses more than one hour from The Capital District/Albany, NY, and per each additional market.

• Staying in touch with you after you move. We will always want to know how things are going for you. And if you want friendly assistance adjusting to your new home or support if you have concerns about the quality of services you are receiving there, we can help with those things too.

• ​​​​Best of all, if you don't have a timeframe in mind to move, we remove any pressure to make a decision. In fact, we can continue the process months or even years from when you begin your initial search. Depending on the timing and circumstances, a supplemental assessment may be needed to ensure any adjustments to search criteria are made.

Fortina's Advocacy & Acclimation Support Service ensures consistency of senior living community providers' services. This is a subscription service that includes a customized schedule of in-person visits, and communication with community representatives and you or your family members. This service is ideal for long-distance family members and those who prefer third-party support.

​Acclimation Support includes in-person assistance with settling in following a move to a senior living community. A personalized plan and schedule are created to support your or a family member's individual needs.

Just like our long-distance senior living community search assistance, fees apply for travel beyond the Capital District/Albany area.
